For me, one of the most intriguing aspects of the whole Bauhaus movement is theatre – also defined as ‘artistic metaphysical mathematics’ by Oskar Schlemmer. The drawings that I sent to the ‘CENTURY+[HU]’ project are in a way a homage to the choreographies and costumes of the figures of the Bauhaus theatre set. I also think in general Bauhaus was the first to demonstrate that mathematical/geometrical thinking is not in opposition to artistic thinking. This explains why I use the common 5 mm grid of the mathematics notebooks as a departure point in these drawings. On the other hand, these drawings are reminiscent of an older series of mine, called “Sliced Paintings” or “Boogie-Woogie series”, just in this case there is only one central, vertical, irregularly geometrical, cut shape (in order to recall the abstract human Bauhaus dolls), the cut-off pieces are not used in the composition (unlike in my former larger size sliced paintings, where the smaller lateral cut-off pieces were reorganised and of notable importance in the final composition) .
